The story begins: "There is a theory among scientists that the ancestors of the Indians of North and South America came from Asia".

This adventure continues where The Man Who Shook The Earth leaves off. Doc and aides are in Antofagasta, Chile for the dedication ceremony of the first wing of a "free" hospital. As is his habit, Doc declined the Chilean government's offer of payment for thwarting the menace of "The Earthshaker", but rather, asked that the funds be used to build the charity hospital.

In the crowded ceremony, Saturday Loo, a brown-skinned Tibetan and the Cockney villain Shrops, attempt to seize Rae Stanley, the daughter of the famous astronomer Professor Stanley, who was lost in the Tibetan mountains while studying meteorites. Rae Stanley had been trying desperately to reach Doc Savage to gain his assistance in finding her father. She believes he fell victim of an evil genius known as Mo-Gwei. Monk and Ham jump into the fray and free Rae Stanley, but they are then overcome and taken prisoner. Before Doc can rescue them, they fall prey to the awesome power of a strange Blue Meteor - a screaming blue streak in the sky that leaves men mindless. Doc, Renny, Johnny and Long Tom battle Shrops and Saturday Loo in their attemps to find Monk and Ham, but are themselves overcome by the Blue Meteor.

Awakening halfway around the world in Tibet over a month later, Doc and his men find themselves in the care of Rae Stanley. When she reveals that in the interim Doc has proposed marriage to her Doc is flabbergasted and tells Monk, "Haul off and sock me one. This must be a dream and I'm entirely ready to be awakened" The young miss Stanley is hiding the truth of their incapacitation.

The fight with Saturday Loo and Shrops resumes... all the way to the temple of Mo-Gwei and the menace of the screaming Blue Meteor and its deadly secret.
